Lisa Couto & Erik Peterson perform as the duo Sounded Ground , an eclectic independent musical duo from Providence, RI. Members include Lisa Couto (vocals, guitar) and Erik Peterson (vocals, piano, production.) The group was formed in 2019, when Lisa needed to put a group together quickly for the Rhode Island Folk festival. Since then, they've been writing and working on recording a full length album together. Erik is a Berklee graduate who played with many of the greats on the California coast, while Lisa has been playing live in Providence, RI and southeastern MA. Both have recorded several albums on their own, but have since come together to release music that is more powerful and greater than the sum of its parts
Lisa’s style incorporates Pop, R&B, Rock and folk influences. She has traveled throughout the eastern seaboard and overseas to perform. In 2013, she was recognized as “Female Vocalist of the Year” by Motif Magazine. In 2015, she was recognized as “Best Folk Act.” She has released 3 CDs, and is working on a fourth, entitled “After the Trouble.” She has been compared to Sheryl Crowe, Eva Cassidy and even Alicia Keys. She can be found singing originals and covers around New England and has played the main stage for the RI Folk Festival for three years. Her laidback style and soulful vocals capture audiences and create devoted followers and friends wherever she goes. Find out more at lisacouto.com.
Although music had always come naturally to Erik Peterson, he decided to further his musical knowledge by obtaining a degree from the Berklee College of Music in Boston. It was there that Erik received the experience and the tools necessary to become a professional recording artist, giving him the confidence he needed to produce his first record "Piano Meditations''. Soon after that, Erik released his second album "Always the Season", an energized piece of work incorporating the vocal talents of many other top singers. His CD "(Live) This Time Around" is Erik at his best. This compilation of various concert recordings is an intimate look at his personal journey of love, heartbreak, joy, friendship, self-discovery and redemption.
In addition to writing and producing records, Erik was co-musical director for Rev-Michael Beckwith of Agape International Spiritual Center in CA, and worked on many projects with and for bands in Los Angeles. In addition to Erik’s solo performances, Erik has shared the stage with many other well known artists such as Grammy winner Paula Cole, blues-pop teen idol Johnny Lang, saxophonist Warren Hill, singer Carly Simon, blues legend Taj Mahal, Earth Wind and Fire's Al Mackay, Michael Jackson guitarist David Williams, weather report drummer Ndugu Chanceler and jazz great Barbara Morrison, to name a few.
Erik continues to uplift and inspire thousands of people in all parts of the world. His life is about music, his music is about love and his message is about inspiration.
